Smile, It's Grilling Time Again! (and Thin Sliced Beef for the rest of us)
I can smell neighbors starting charcoal.... Of course I still live in circumstances that make grilling largely unworkable personally, but hey, I can vicariously enjoy it.
In the meantime, I did discover something kind of neat. TJ's sells this thin sliced raw beef in one pound packs. I'd guess it's probably sirloin given its consistency. You could do quite a number of things with it, but here's what I did:
(1) Marinate it in a mixture of soy sauce, mirin, sugar, sesame oil, onion and garlic. Sear in the cast iron pan.
(2) Skip marinating and just sear in the cast iron pan with a bit of salt and a nice pepper blend.
It cooks VERY fast and would be great as a sandwich filling or accent to an otherwise mostly vegetable dish. You just need to make sure to keep the pieces far enough apart so it sears and doesn't steam but given how fast this cooks that is not too hard.
Any other ideas for thin-sliced beef?
