Open Source Food: A Place to Start?

Some time ago, I posted about Open Source Food: the idea that agricultural scientists could conceivably begin open source projects that could, among other things, function as an alternative to the seeds sold by Montsanto.
Today, via Slashdot, I learned about DIYbio - a group of individuals working on open source DIY biology projects. We know that big things can get started by a guy or two working in a garage. We've seen it in computers with Apple. I don't know what will come of this in the realm of agriculture, but I can hope it is something good.
Want more information? Here's an interview> with DIYbio founder, Mac Cowell.
